1. What should I expect for my first massage therapy visit?
On your first visit, the therapist will ask you to complete a
confidential health history form. The therapist will begin by

asking you general health questions and may also perform certain physical
assessments and testing to evaluate your condition. This will determine your
treatment needs and goals.

2. Do I need to undress completely before a massage session?
No, you will undress to your level of comfort. This means you may remain
fully clothed, you may undress completely, or anything in between. During
the massage session, you will be covered with a sheet and blanket at all
times except the area being worked on. Whatever you choose, the therapist
will act in a professional manner, and will provide you with a relaxing
experience.

3. Will the massage oils used make me break-out?
Most massage therapists use hypoallergenic massage oils or lotions.
However, if you have sensitivity to certain types of oils or lotion please bring
it to the massage therapist's attention as most practitioners have an
assortment of oils and lotions on hand.

4. Is massage therapy painful?
Massage is a relaxing, pleasurable experience. Even when working deeper
on a specific problem such as a sore neck or back, the therapist works within
the pain tolerance of each person. However, it is not always possible to
gauge an individual’s reaction, please do not hesitate to speak up if you feel
discomfort in any way during your treatment.

5. Is it safe to have a massage during pregnancy?
Yes, it is and we highly recommend it. Experts say that massage can be
effective in relieving tension during pregnancy, helping to prepare for labor
and making the postpartum period less difficult. Just check with your doctor
to ensure you can receive all the benefits massage therapy has to offer
during your pregnancy.

6. How long will a massage treatment last?
The average massage treatment lasts approximately one hour. A half-hour
appointment only allows time for a partial massage session, such as neck
and shoulders, back or legs and feet. Many people prefer a 60- to 90-minute
session for optimal result.

7. After my appointment, is there anything I should do?
One of the best tools of preventative health maintenance is drinking at least
8 glasses of water a day. The human body is composed of 70 percent water,
and during a massage, waste products are massaged out of the muscles into
the blood stream. Drinking extra water helps to eliminate these waste
products from the body.

8. How often should I get a massage?
Frequency of massage depends on the goals of treatment. Under normal
conditions, every two weeks to once a month is recommended for optimal
health maintenance. Many people find it beneficial to have a massage once
a week.
